- NSERC FAQs
Students must approach a grantee and request to apply to this award with him/her. Grantees may have several students doing the same and may hold interviews to determine who the best candidate(s) is/are. Please give yourself and the grantee(s) you are interested in plenty of time to go through all of these procedures. Please note that students must have completed two semesters of studies at the time of application (first-year students not eligible).
Once students have secured a supervisor, both must complete their respective forms (Part I for the student, part II for the supervisor) ONLINE. Applications must then be printed, but please DO NOT press submit yet! Those prepared by any other means (e.g., handwritten or manually typewritten) will NOT be accepted. We will not accept faxed copies either. The student must also secure a ROSI printout of their grades to both forms along with the application checklist with a paperclip and bring it into the Undergraduate Advisor during the pre-scheduled informal 'application check' on Friday February 24th where the Advisor will determine the student's eligibility to apply and the application is checked for any mistakes. Once the student's eligibility is established, the application will be given to the selection committee. If the student is nominated for the award, he/she must order an official University of Toronto transcript and have it sent/brought immediately to the Advisor. DO NOT GET AN OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT UNLESS YOU ARE GIVEN THE AWARD! The transcript must be given to the Advisor in a SEALED ENVELOPE only. The Advisor will then make a PDF copy of the transcript and email it to the student. The student must then upload it to the NSERC online application site. Please note that this is only done when the student has been selected. Student and supervisor will also have to submit an RIS form. The Advisor will make this form available once the student has been selected to receive the award.
Please make sure you show up for the eligibility application check at the time you signed up. A sign-up schedule has been posted beside the door of Sidney Smith Hall, room 4014.
