Abstract: Separate lines of evidence from human neuroimaging have implicated the leftangular gyrus (AG) in our ability to 1) recollect specific past episodes and2) our ability to access general prior knowledge. This poses an importantquestion regarding the nature of the mnemonic content tracked by the leftAG: is this region sensitive to recollection, prior knowledge, or overallmnemonic content from either domain? In this presentation, I will discussexperimental results highlighting the interplay between recollection andprior knowledge in behaviour and in the univariate activity of the left AG.Overall, I argue that activity in the left AG is best described as trackingboth specific recollections and general prior knowledge, reflecting accessto internal mnemonic content irrespective of its relevance to ongoing taskperformance.
